The Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club has run continuously since 1973. You can read more about our proud history here.
Our core purpose is to promote the enjoyment of cycle touring amongst our members.
The club facilitates the sharing of knowledge and experience, through rides, gatherings, talks and other events. Equipment, navigation, logistics and fitness are all skills that members develop by being a part of the club.
Our purpose is also about promoting the ethos of cycle touring as a way of connecting with interesting places and people while getting outdoors and into nature.
While we support all things cycling, Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club isn’t an advocacy or lobby group, focusing instead on facilitating rides and gatherings.
Our common interest in bicycle touring does not preclude us from organising non-riding or social activities.

How we operate

Our committee is responsible for keeping the club running smoothly ensuring the club is adhering with these rules. Read more about the MBTC committee on this page

Social gatherings
The Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club holds non-cycling events for members and potential members.
These social meetings are a chance for members to catch up away from our bikes and enjoy a meal or nibbles. Club gatherings usually include a guest speaker, workshop, slide show, or ‘show-and-tell’.
We are always looking for ideas for our social gatherings, whether that is a speaker, topic or even a venue. If you have an idea, please get in touch!
As an incorporated club, MBTC is required to hold an Annual General Meeting. This is usually held in May and covers important club business including appointment of committee members.
Core meetings or gatherings for MBTC include:
- Summer Meeting
- Annual General Meeting (usually in May)
- Winter Meeting
- Christmas BBQ
